A New Song
Alice Parker leads singing for worship at Christ Lutheran Church
Let us teach “new songs” and revive old ones, enabling our choirs and congregations to “sing with understanding.” We can make wonderful music in our sanctuaries. – Alice Parker
Join us on Sunday, October 22 at 10 am when one of America’s most celebrated composers and song leaders, Alice Parker will teach and direct both familiar and new music for worship. The CLC Choir has frequently sung Alice’s original compositions and arrangements. Most recently, the Choir has been regularly singing hymns from her recently published THE MELODIOUS ACCORD HYMNAL, and several of those hymns, and hymns from the ELW, will be included in the service.
Alice is at heart a teacher who seeks to include everyone in the joy of communal singing. Her community “sings” are world famous. She truly seeks to create “communities of sound through singing.”
At 9 am, we invite singers to join Alice in a rehearsal of music for the service, including her choral arrangement of “Come thou fount of every blessing” which will serve as the Offertory Music. Please contact Music Director, Tom Berryman at email@example.com if you would like to attend the rehearsal and participate in the choir for the service.
Composer, conductor and teacher Alice Parker was born in Boston, MA in 1925. A graduate of Smith College and the Juilliard School, she has led an active life of composing, conducting and teaching focused on melody and on the human voice. Her own compositions include
