LOVING OUR NEIGHBORS

Christ Lutheran Church (CLC) offers many opportunities to love – and help – our neighbors and fellow members in need

Christ Lutheran Church is a founding congregation of Family Promise – Metrowest, an interfaith network of 42 congregations in Boston’s Metrowest region.  For four years, Family Promise has been providing temporary shelter and transitional assistance for homeless families, enabling them to face and overcome the challenges that left them without a home.  Christ Lutheran offers overnight accommodations and a nourishing evening meal for the families on a rotating basis with the other congregations throughout the year.  In addition, Christ Lutheran raises money to support Family Promise Metrowest through such events as the annual “Sweet Sounds” concert, because Family Promise Metrowest is entirely self-supporting and receives no government funds.  For more information on Family Promise MetroWest, go to www.familypromisemetrowest.org

CLC supports many programs of Ascentria Care Alliance (formerly Lutheran Social Services of New England).  In addition to support for the organization’s general fund, Christ Lutheran Church participates in Ascentria’s annual Christmas gifts  program at the Ruth House in Brockton, and members have donated at least eight vehicles to Good News Garage and raised additional funds to enable low income families to purchase cars through the “Jump Start” program of Good NewsGarage.org. For more information go to Info@LSSNE.org or www.GoodNewsGarage.org.

CLC regularly donates groceries and funds to the food pantry of the Natick Service Councilhttp://www.natickservicecouncil.org/

CLC hosts a yearly spaghetti supper to raise funds for Resurrection Lutheran Church in Roxbury to support the ministries of this inner city parish. www.resrox.org/

Many CLC members participate in the annual walk-a-thon to benefit Camp Calumet.http://www.calumet.org/

Christ Lutheran has designated 20 percent of the proceeds from our current “The Second Century Fund” capital appeal for each of the organizations described above.  This represents about $10000 to each organization.

CLC also partners with Medicine Wheel Productions  http://www.mwponline.org/, a non-profit based in South Boston, which employs art as a medium for building community among diverse and historically alienated people, particularly at-risk youth and young adults who come into the program through the criminal justice system.

In 2014, CLC established the “Amazing Natick” grant, whereby a community partner is awarded $1000 for a project that in some way enhances the lives of Natick residents and visitors:

Christ Lutheran Church, located at 113 Union Street in Natick, has been proud to be a part of the community for more than 100 years.  Many of our members live in Natick. Christ Lutheran has been an active supporter of the town and the services available to its citizens.  This Amazing Natick grant is offered by the church as another way for our congregation to give back to our town.
